UNION COUNTY MAN CONVICTED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES
LITTLE ROCK - Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced today that a Union County man arrested in October by agents from his office pleaded guilty late last week to child pornography charges and was sentenced to 60 years in prison.
George Alan Haile, 56, of El Dorado pleaded guilty to six counts of distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, a Class C felony. Union County Circuit Court Judge Hamilton Singleton sentenced Haile to 10 years in prison on each count. Those sentences will be served consecutively. Haile received an additional 30-year suspended sentence.
"This man used the Internet to exploit our children. With this 60-year prison sentence, he will be unable to any longer," McDaniel said. "The people of Arkansas deserve to know that this type of criminal is no longer a danger to our children. I appreciate the work of our Cyber Crimes Unit and law enforcement officials in Union County in securing this arrest and conviction."
Agents with the Attorney General's Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at Haile's residence, 2195 O'Rear Road, in El Dorado, on Sept. 10. Multiple images of child pornography were discovered on a laptop computer confiscated from the residence.
Subsequent to the execution of the search warrant, Union County authorities arrested Haile for failing to register as a sex offender.
Following the Cyber Crimes Unit's investigation, the Attorney General turned the completed case file over to the 13th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney's office, which prosecuted Haile.
Haile is being held in the Union County Detention Center awaiting transfer to the Arkansas Department of Correction.
